GLEN Chapple admits he is not expecting new signing Graham Onions to play in every Specsavers County Championship match for Lancashire next season.

However, the Red Rose head coach believes the 35-year-old former England Test seamer will be just as valuable off the field as on the pitch in helping the young bowlers establish themselves.

Onions, who was unveiled by the club on Tuesday, missed a chunk of last season with Durham because of a back injury, but will add much needed experience to a Lancashire side which has lost Kyle Jarvis and Ryan McLaren for next season.

He is also a full qualified level four coach, which will be invaluable for Chapple.

"I have liked Graham for a long time, he is a very high-quality bowler," said Chapple. "When it came to light Kyle Jarvis was going back to Zimbabwe, I felt we needed to bolster our attack with some proven quality. …
