KU Basketball Unanimous Pick atop Big 12 Preseason Poll; K-State Eighth

Kansas is the unanimous favorite heading into its quest to again make college basketball history this season.

The Jayhawks were picked to win the Big 12 by nine of the league's 10 coaches in the conference's preseason poll released Thursday.

KU coach Bill Self, like his peers, is not allowed to vote for his own team.

If KU does win the conference, it would break the NCAA record of 13 straight regular season conference championships set by UCLA (1967-79).

It is the 16th time in the Big 12's 22-year history the Jayhawks were picked as the preseason favorite, with KU winning or tying for 17 of the 21 regular season titles.

Senior guard Devonte' Graham was previously named the conference's preseason player of the year, while sophomore guard Malik Newman was picked preseason newcomer of the year. …
