This week I still can't stop thinking about my experience at one of the most exclusive dinner clubs in Topeka.

The gracious Martha Bartlett Piland invited me as her guest to attend a 1905 dinner at the Topeka Country Club. These dinners are held a few times a month in the basement of the club -- in the room that used to be the bakery.

The Saturday before last, not knowing where I was headed, I followed a couple of knowledgeable-looking diners to the basement room, where I stepped into a modern-chic speakeasy right here in Topeka. The room had an industrial feel, with exposed Edison bulbs casting a light glow on the space, and a handful of tables scattered around the room.
