Two Men Killed Hours Apart in Homewood

Two men were shot to death in separate incidents in Homewood late Sunday and early Monday.

Pittsburgh police do not believe the shootings were connected or retaliatory, police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said. They are being investigated as separate incidents.

Officers found Paul D. Hinton, 43, dead from a gunshot wound to his chest at 11:57 p.m. on Sunday. His body was found under a car in the 7400 block of Race Street, according to police.

About four hours later, at 3:38 a.m. Monday, 20-year-old Jason Estes was shot and killed about a half-mile away in the 700 block of Brushton Avenue.

Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation for two shots fired and arrived at the scene to find Mr. Estes shot in the head.

He was taken to UPMC Presbyterian and was pronounced dead at 5:52 a.m.

Hinton was born and raised in Homewood, said Channon Hinton, 44, of Hazelwood. Her late husband was Hinton's cousin, she said. She recalled him as a fun-loving person who cared deeply for his children. …
