Little Ferry Councilwoman Stepping Down

LITTLE FERRY -- Roberta Henriquez, one of the longest-serving council members in Bergen County, is stepping down from her seat at the end of the year.

Henriquez, the council president, is serving her 30th year on the Borough Council. She announced Tuesday night she would not be seeking re-election in November.

"This decision was very difficult for me to make because I love serving the people of Little Ferry," she said. "However, due to some health issues I find it very difficult to give 100 percent to the town I love."

Henriquez, 70, was elected to the council in 1988, and before then had served on the borough Board of Education for six years. The borough's Democratic County Committee has chosen Jennifer Lange as Henriquez's replacement on the ballot in November. She will run unopposed along with Councilwoman Peggy Steinhilber for one of two open seats. …
