Harvey Allows Five Runs in Mets' Loss

MILWAUKEE - With the crowd inside Miller Park roaring in the background, Matt Harvey met Terry Collins a few steps from the rubber and handed his manager the baseball.

The chance for a solid night in his first outing following the team suspending him for three games had just evaporated in nine pitches, with two of them leaving the park. The last, a blast by light-hitting Orlando Arcia, caused Collins to trot to the mound.

At a time when Harvey and the Mets are hoping they have put his suspension in the past, the righty's struggles on the mound are once again have become problematic.

Harvey's return to the mound did not go well with the starter allowing three homers in a 7-4 loss to the Brewers on Friday night at Miller Park. Harvey (2-3) allowed three runs in the sixth to break a 2-all tie, and surrendered five runs in five-plus innings.

"We were hoping he could get through bottom of order to set up matches later in game. Couldn't do it," Collins said of Harvey. "I thought, we got to get six innings out of him. It would be really good to get six out of him."

The righty has now yielded 10 homers in 40 innings this season.

The past seven days have been some of the hardest in Harvey's career with the Mets suspending him for three games without pay last Saturday after not arriving for a game. Harvey stayed out late in Manhattan the night before, and went golfing on Saturday morning before pulling a no show the next afternoon for the game against Miami.

The suspension called into question Harvey's commitment to baseball and his focus, and Collins repeatedly said this week that Harvey needs to make baseball his top priority, and even Harvey admitted he needed to focus more on the sport.

Friday's start offered Harvey a chance for a return to normalcy, and Collins said Harvey entered the start with a "great outlook. …
