Sanchez Leads Way as Yanks Top Tigers

DETROIT - Gary Sanchez's latest August assault continued Wednesday night, with his initial at-bat.

A first-inning home run off Tigers starter Jordan Zimmermann was soon followed up by Sanchez's soft, two-run single in the third - kickstarting the Yankees' five-run inning at Comerica Park.

The right-hander gave up six hits and one walk with eight strikeouts, winning for the sixth time in seven starts since the All-Star break.

An eight-game road trip concludes on Thursday afternoon, with the Yankees (68-57) in position to sweep three games from the toothless Tigers (54-71).

And Girardi hinted that Sanchez might serve as Thursday's designated hitter, after originally planning to DH one of his outfielders.
