NORTH ARLINGTON - Under the $23.5 million municipal budget, the average resident will see a municipal tax decrease of about 4 percent.

1. Decrease

The average municipal tax bill for residents with homes at the average assessed value of $329,600 -- up from $319,000 last year -- will decrease 4 percent to $3,676. Last year's average bill was $3,844.

2. Revenue/appropriations

Last year, the tax levy, or the amount to be raised from taxes, was $17.8 million; this year, it stands at $17.44 million.

Officials explained that $750,000 from the borough's $2.5 million surplus was used toward the budget.

3. Shortfalls

$442,153 is still owed to North Arlington from the 2016 tax-sharing program.

Mayor Joe Bianchi said the borough filed suit on April 24 against the New Jersey Treasury seeking payment of its outstanding funds. …
