Cliffside Park Building Readies for Occupancy

CLIFFSIDE PARK - The Towne Center, a residential and commercial development bogged down by a decade of money woes and construction setbacks, will finally open its doors to tenants this summer.

Pre-leasing for a 13-story, 277-unit luxury apartment building and some 50,000 square feet of retail and office space on Anderson Avenue will begin on May 1 for occupancy in July, said James Demetrakis, one of the project's developers.

"Work is progressing nicely," said Bill Maer, a spokesman for Cliffside Park. "We want this completed as soon as possible, because we know it's going to be a huge economic boon for that area of the borough."

Borough officials expect the Towne Center to create hundreds of permanent jobs, enliven the downtown business district and generate significant tax revenue.

The development's finish line, now in sight, eluded Cliffside Park for years. …
