An investigation by Work-Safe B-C into the deaths of three men after an ammonia leak at an arena in Fernie is expected to take months to complete.

Trish Knight Chernecki says the arena and community centre will remain closed to the public while Work-Safe collaborates with other agencies overseeing the safety plan and clean-up operation.

Wayne Hornquist, Lloyd Smith and Jason Podloski died last week and a memorial is planned to remember them.

The head of the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation is weighing in on allegations that proceeds of crime are making their way through a B-C casino, saying the company has a culture of integrity and transparency.

President Rod N. Baker says the corporation is committed to preventing illegal activities at all of its locations, including the River Rock Casino in Richmond.

Last month, the B-C government announced an independent expert's review of the province's policies in the gambling industry after concerns about money laundering at River Rock.

Attorney General David Eby says he launched the probe after reading a report about the casino accepting 13-point-five-million dollars in 20-dollar bills in July 2015 that police said could be proceeds of crime involving Asian V-I-P clients. (The Canadian Press)




Mounties in Kamloops have surrounded a home in the city's north shore after two people were shot before noon today.

Corporal Jodi Shelkie says a man showed up at a fast food restaurant with injuries and another male was injured in the area.

Staff Sergeant Simon Pillay says the home is well known to police and generally associated with street drugs.

He says it's too early to provide more details on the shooting. …
