The Oct. 14 article "Environmental Groups Map Proximity of Well Sites, Kids" ignores facts and presents readers with a deeply flawed and biased view on safe, responsible energy development. Despite the headline-grabbing claims of activists, responsible natural gas development has resulted in historic environmental and air quality improvements. In fact, Pennsylvania's top environmental regulator confirmed recently that the commonwealth's air quality is improving thanks in large part to greater natural gas production and use.

Locally, actual air quality monitoring continues to confirm that natural gas development is safe. Consider, for example, a recent air quality analysis at the Fort Cherry School District, which has a producing natural gas well pad 900 yards north of its campus. The independent findings are straightforward: "the operation of a hydraulic fracturing well pad in Washington County did not substantially affect local air concentrations of total and individual volatile organic compounds. …
