One of the two Pitt football teammates charged with fighting suggested Thursday a game of Madden simply got out of hand.

Paris Ford and Tyler Sear, freshmen on the Pitt football team, face charges stemming from an Oct. 17 fight the two had, in a Pitt dorm room, according to a University of Pittsburgh police report filed Wednesday.

Ford, a highly touted defensive back from Steel Valley High School who likely is sitting out this season, and Sear, a tight end from Neshannock, who saw action in the first four games but hasn't played since, were "engaged in fighting behavior" with each other, per a criminal complaint filed Wednesday. Further details describing the scuffle are sparse, though a Pitt police officer wrote in the complaint that "this course of conduct created a physically hazardous condition to a degree police response was required. …
