PEP Guardiola has been told he is 'clutching at straws' with his complaints about the Carabao Cup ball.

The City boss was not happy following the Blues' penaltyshoot-out win over Wolves on Tuesday night, blasting: "The ball is not acceptable to play with at that level.

"We play with a different ball. It's not Nike, Adidas I don't know, it's a different brand. It's unacceptable to play with the ball.

"That ball is not a serious ball for a professional game."

The subject of Guardiola's complaint is the Mitre Delta ball used in the Carabao Cup and all EFL competition from the Championship down.

Nike and Adidas balls are used in the Premier League and Champions League respectively.

There were suggestions the Catalan's comments were put forward as a distraction from a mediocre performance from City against Wolves, when they needed extra-time and penalties to proceed. …
