P06 - (Trudeau-Torture Settlement) BURLINGTON, Ontario. x-18s. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is defending a federal government payout of over 31-million dollars to three Canadian citizens who were tortured in Syria. The Liberal government said in March it had settled long-standing lawsuits filed by Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad El Maati and Muayyed Nureddin over the federal role in their ordeals, but did not give details. On a stop in Burlington, Ontario today Trudeau says the payouts are not about what individuals did, or whether they deserved to be tortured. ("..responsibility taken.") (SOURCE:The Canadian Press)

TAG: Trudeau says he hopes Canadians are angry that such payments have to be made because of the failings of a government.
