The Ontario government says reducing the number of illegal marijuana shops in the province will be one of the main considerations in deciding where to set up new stores run by the L-C-B-O.

The province announced last month that the L-C-B-O would operate about 150 stand-alone stores and online ordering once recreational pot is legalized next summer.

It sent letters to all municipalities today saying the Liquor Control Board and provincial officials will be meeting with those that have been identified as potential sites for new stories to discuss next steps.

It says distributing stores across the province will be the other primary consideration used to identify locations but says the public will be able to provide feedback on a proposed site before any decisions are made. (The Canadian Press)



The Ontario Trucking Association says it plans to take action after provincial police charged three truckers in a trio of accidents this summer that claimed six lives.

O-P-P Commissioner Vince Hawkes said that in all three cases a transport truck crashed into traffic that was stopped or had slowed down due to road construction or a collision.

The trucking association notes the concern is over a relatively small number of truckers not following the rules but says it's about to launch a campaign to address driver attentiveness, education and awareness.

Communications vice president Marco Beghetto says the O-T-A is also open to discussing the idea of using technology to limit use of devices in transports while they're in operation to cut down on distracted driving. (CKLW)
