Paterson's Brown Promises Robust Fund for Campaign

PATERSON – Mayoral candidate Glenn Brown, the city's former public safety director, said he plans to spend much more than $5,100 on his election campaign, despite signing a sworn statement saying he would not exceed that amount.

"You can't expect to run citywide and spend less than $5,100," said Brown.

"That would be ridiculous. I'm going to spend a lot more than $5,100."

Brown's statement was made in reaction to a Paterson Press story published on NorthJersey.com last week about the status of campaign fundraising in the city's mayoral race. The story reported that Brown had filed a statement with the state saying he would not spend more than $5,100, the threshold at which candidates must submit detailed reports of their contributions and spending.

Brown said his staff thought the sworn statement about the $5,100 threshold, which he filed in July, applied to his fundraising as of that time. …
