Soap Saver a CNN 'Hero' Finalist

Samir Lakhani is one of 10 nominees in the 11th annual CNN "Hero of the Year" campaign. The finalists were announced by Anderson Cooper Thursday morning on "New Day."

The program honors "everyday" people helping to make the world a better place. Mr. Lakhani, 24, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh who created Eco-Soap Bank, a Squirrel Hill-based organization that sanitizes and repackages discarded soap. Studying climate change in Cambodia in 2014, Mr. Lakhani recognized the country's need for soap and hygiene education.

"I'm incredibly honored to receive the award to further promote this Pittsburgh initiative and raise the urgency around global hygiene, and the reality that people live every day without hygiene access in a developing world," he said. …
