Espada Is Headed to Houston; Ibanez Is Likely Staying in L.A

NEW YORK – There are two fewer managerial candidates in the Yankees' universe.

Third base coach Joe Espada is headed to Houston to be a part of its coaching staff, and Raul Ibanez isn't likely to switch coasts.

According to an industry source, the Manhattan-born Ibanez, 45, is "humbled by the interest" connecting him as a candidate for the Yankees' managing vacancy, but is content in his current role as a special assistant in the NL champion Dodgers' front office.

Three years ago, Ibanez – a home run hitting postseason hero as a Yankee in 2012 - was contacted about the Yankees' vacant hitting coach position.

On Thursday, ESPN's Marly Rivera reported that Espada will be joining the newly-crowned world champion Astros to serve as their bench coach, replacing Alex Cora – who left that position to become the Red Sox manager. …
