The Pennsylvania Department of Education released its 2017 school report cards Friday afternoon.

The School Performance Profiles, which grade individual schools on a scale of 100 - with the chance to earn seven extra points - are based mostly on standardized test scores, and to a lesser degree factors such as graduation rates and attendance. Families can check their schools' scores at http://paschoolperformance.org/.

The department doesn't analyze trends in scores from year to year, and officials from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit and Pittsburgh Public Schools, who have historically commented on such data locally, couldn't immediately be reached.

The state education department will use the Future Ready PA Index to replace the School Performance Profile starting in the fall of 2018. …
