Ben Lovejoy OK with His Altered Role

CALGARY – It's a different role this season for veteran Ben Lovejoy.

But even as Lovejoy's playing time decreases, the rational-thinking defenseman is thrilled with the start to the season.

Lovejoy was back in the lineup on Sunday night as the Devils concluded a three-game Western Canada trip against the Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome after being a healthy scratch the previous two games with Steven Santini (upper body) unable to play.

"Last season was tough, wins and losses," said the 33-year-old Lovejoy, who played all 82 games in his first season with the Devils as the team finished last in the Eastern Conference. "Winning is really fun. Right now, we're 9-3 and I'm in and out and my job is to be ready when the time comes. It's fun to come to the rink every day and it's fun to be part of a team that's going somewhere. Right now, this is my role and I'm doing my best. …
