5 NJ Runners in Top NYC Marathon Finishers

Five New Jersey runners, including residents of Teaneck and Morristown, were among the first 250 finishers in the men's and women's groups in today's New York City marathon.

Another North Jerseyan finished sixth among women handcyclists.

Isaac Markel, 24, of Churchill Road in Teaneck finished 195th among the men in the 26.2-mile race, crossing the finish line in two hours, 44 minutes and 18 seconds. His time was about 34 minutes longer than the winner's.

Just behind him, in 211th place, was Bradford Ackerman, 27, of Farmhouse Lane, Morristown, who ran the race in two hours 44 minutes and 51 seconds.

Among women, Amanda Marino, 28, of Asbury Park, led the way for New Jersey, finishing in two hours, 49 minutes, 44 seconds. That ranked her 31st among women in the race.

In the handcycle category, Maria Bournias, 41, of Tenafly led New Jerseyans with a sixth-place finish among women. …
