LONDON restaurant group Dishoom has lodged plans to open its long-rumoured Manchester restaurant.

Inspired by Bombay's old Irani cafes, the chain started in Covent Garden in 2010 and now has five sites in the capital as well as one in Edinburgh.

Now it has applied for a licence to open a new restaurant inside Manchester Hall on Bridge Street.

A multi-million pound redevelopment of the former Freemasons Hall was completed last week. It will be home to a number of restaurants and bars, including the newly-opened Masons, which will be joined soon by tapas bar Pintura and pan-Asian restaurant Fable.

Dishoom will occupy unit one of the Grade II-listed building, according to a licence application submitted to the council, which is seeking permission to open from 10am to 3am, seven days a week. …
