St. Louis Man Who Beat Baby Son to Death Gets 25 Years Prison

ST. LOUIS * A man from St. Louis was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty in the beating death of his infant son in 2016.

Deveontay Bell, 23, of the 3700 block of Keokuk Street, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and child abuse resulting in death, both felonies. He had been charged with second-degree murder and the child abuse charge.

Bell was immediately sentenced by St. Louis Circuit Judge David Mason to 15 years in prison on the manslaughter charge and 10 years on the child abuse charge. The judge ordered that the sentences be served consecutively.

Bell was charged in August 2016 in the beating death of his son, who was days from his first birthday when he was killed. He was born Aug. 31, 2015.
