Thanksgiving Travel Set to Be Highest in Years

Thanksgiving traditionally is one of the busiest travel holidays of the year, as people take cars, trains, boats and planes to gather with loved ones.

This year will prove to be no different, as AAA projects some 51 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from their homes, making it the busiest Thanksgiving holiday since 2005. That total is up 1.6 million from a year ago.

AAA says the West North Central Region will see more than 4.1 million people taking trips of 50 miles or longer over the Thanksgiving holiday, up 3 percent over 2016 and the largest number of travelers since 2007. Nearly 3.8 million of those travelers, or 90 percent, will journey by car.

The West North Central Region is composed of Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota. …
