ST. ANDREWS, Man. - A woman who admitted to stealing nearly 300-thousand dollars from a Winnipeg-area community club, nearly bankrupting it in the process, has been sentenced to 15 months in jail.

Sharon Wasny was the volunteer bookkeeper at the St. Andrews Community Club between 2005 and 2012.

Her sentence came after the 54-year-old St. Andrews resident pleaded guilty this past March.

The court heard club administrators started looking into their financial situation in 2012 after Manitoba Hydro told them it was about to cut service due to months of unpaid bills.

The board was forced to increase sport fees significantly and had to put essential building and equipment repairs on hold.

Wasny, who ran her own accounting business, later became hostile and refused to hand over financial records when the board asked for her help in solving the club's financial problems. …
