WALLINGTON – Phillip Latora ripped it right out.

He snuffed out a swing pass and took the ball from a receiver's hands.

And no one stood in his way to the endzone.

The sophomore made one of many opportunistic plays made by the Pompton Lakes' defense.

His pick-six in the fourth quarter all but sealed their 34-26 win over Wallington on Friday night in the North 1, Group 1 semifinal at John Lulay Memorial Field.

The Panther comeback fell just short as Steven Sanders made an interception in the final minute to put the game away.

The Cardinals move on to face defending-champion Hasbrouck Heights in the championship game.

Once again, Frank Negrini was responsible for most of Pompton Lakes' offense.

The Cardinals' running back came into the game with 1,434 yards with 22 touchdowns on the season and 8.8 yards per carry. …
