#PartyWithAPurpose: Nobody does a Sunday supper quite like 412 Food Rescue, an organization committed to ending food waste and insecurity in southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond. The sold-out event featured a 10-course (yes, you read that right!) meal created by up-and-coming chefs from all over the country, using rescued food. But what is rescued food? "Rescued food is just surplus food that isn't sold by the 'sell by' date that restaurants cannot use," said Leah Lizarondo, co-founder and CEO of 412 Food Rescue. The organization has saved more than 1.5 million pounds of food since its inception in 2015, redirecting fresh produce and other items to nonprofits instead of landfills. "We wanted to connect chefs who think about food and food waste from all over the country to this event and learn how they can make impacts in their own community," said Jamilka Borges, a member of the advisory board as well as executive chef of Spoon. …
