Extra Buses, Trains Added for Holiday

Article excerpt

Extra train and bus lines will be added for the holiday weekend by NJ Transit, hopefully making travel a bit easier for those coming and going.

On Wednesday, NJ Transit will offer an early getaway rail and bus service for people leaving work early as well as providing more service for those traveling to Newark Airport, the organization said in a press release.

Ridership levels for the airport's rail station doubles the day before Thanksgiving and NJ Transit recommends that commuters grab their tickets early to avoid lines or to download their app to purchase tickets.

Extra trains and buses will be added for the morning and midday hours to accommodate parade goers and on Black Friday, "enhanced" bus service will go to shopping centers throughout the state and extra trains will run to and from New York.

Here's a quick breakdown of the holiday train and bus scheduling:

WEDNESDAY: Early getaway service from New York, Newark and Hoboken will be offered on Wednesday, starting at 1 p.m. on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines.

THANKSGIVING: The trains will adhere to their weekend/major holiday schedule. Extra trains will be added to the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley, Morris & Essex and Port Jervis lines to provide more service for those traveling to and from the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

q Trains will operate on a modified weekday schedule on all lines with additional New York-bound trains being added between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The extra trains will run on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Morris & Essex lines. Morning peak service will see some adjustments on the Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast lines. Some trains will not operate or be combined with other trains because of expected light ridership. …
