The master bedroom is one of the home's most important rooms, but one that can so easily be neglected. Unlike other areas in the home, it's not constantly on show.

With Christmas fast approaching, time, money and energy are in demand everywhere, so keep it simple with some small changes which reap maximum reward.

MOVE TO IMPROVE Inject new life into the bedroom by re-arranging your furniture.

Not only will this make your room feel completely new, it will give you a chance to decide what furnishings are essential and what's there simply because it always has been.

For other instant, yet inexpensive, lifts, try re-hanging pictures (complete with new frames) and invest in some new accessories, such as scatter cushions for the bed, bedside lamps and large, luscious plants (trust me, all things botanical are going to be massive in 2018).

HIDDEN TREASURES Decluttering a bedroom can be tremendously cathartic.

It can also be tremendously stressful. After all, if something has ended up in your bedroom, chances are there is no room for it anywhere else in the home. The simple solution is to invest in some storage.

For small-scale storage, replica retro boxes or chests are fantastic for throwing plenty of bits and pieces into, and will double as a statement piece of furniture.

For larger quantities and if room allows, source a small wardrobe or chest of drawers to complement existing furnishings.

If your budget is tight, have a look around local charity shops or vintage emporiums for a pre-loved beauty.

RUG-GED GOOD LOOKS Rugs are a fantastic way to liven up the bedroom floor without going to the expense of replacing your existing flooring.
