Centre County District Attorney-elect Bernie Cantorna - citing a conflict of interest - apparently wants Pennsylvania's attorney general to take over prosecution of the case involving the hazing death of a Penn State University student.

More than two dozen people face a variety of charges related to the death of Timothy Piazza, 19, a sophomore from Lebanon, N.J., who was pledging the now defunct chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

He died following a Feb. 2 pledge initiation in the fraternity house just off the University Park campus in which prosecutors say he and other pledges were subjected to a drinking ritual called "the gauntlet."

Mr. Cantorna could not immediately be reached for comment late Tuesday. In a statement earlier in the day, he cited a conflict of interest as the reason he wants the state to prosecute the case, according to The Associated Press. …
