Paterson Teams Get Help on Fla. Trip

PATERSON – Community members have begun pitching in to help the Paterson Nifty Lions youth football teams make the trip to Florida next month to play in a national tournament.

Hours after a Paterson Press story appeared on NorthJersey.com last Friday, Paterson real estate investor provided the team with a $5,000 donation towards the tournament, according to head coach Antonio Carter.

The team also received $2,000 from city firefighter Roshawn Davis, one of the leaders of the Paterson Bronze Heat, the local chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, the coach said.

Other folks have been calling to offer contributions, the coach said. "We greatly appreciate it," Carter said. "This is really important to these kids."

The week-long trip to the tournament near Tampa costs $500 per player, according to coaches and parents. …
