Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade Tops Slate of Saturday Activities

The holiday spirit will burst into downtown Topeka on Saturday when the Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade draws thousands of people to celebrate the holidays.

"It's an evening parade, and that's what I love. Everyone is in a great, festive mood, the floats are all lit up and we have new holiday lights," said Michelle Cuevas-Stubblefield, director of marketing and membership for Downtown Topeka Inc.

Parade-goers this year will see more Christmas lights along the downtown route, courtesy of the Downtown Business Improvement District and the City of Topeka, she said. Last year, the BID purchased half the lights with funds received from the Transient Guest Tax and this year, they've purchased the second half.

The parade has been going on since 1995, but it's only in recent years that its popularity has drawn other events to be part of the parade day, she said. …
