MP Is Suspended over Sex Harassment Claim

BURY South MP Ivan Lewis has been suspended from the Labour Party amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Labour is investigating two complaints against the MP, which he strenuously denies.

The party announced yesterday that he had been suspended, pending an investigation.

Mr Lewis stepped down from his role as joint homelessness lead at the Greater Manchester mayor's office, after news of the first complaint emerged last week.

Since then, a second complaint has been made.

The woman who made that allegation told Buzzfeed News he had harassed her at a fundraiser in 2010, repeatedly touching her leg and inviting her back to his house.

After the allegation was reported, Mr Lewis had said in a statement from his lawyers that he apologised 'that on some occasions his invitations to people he works with to join him for dinner or drinks have made them feel uncomfortable', adding that he was 'genuinely sorry if he got it wrong in some circumstances. …
