The Pirates have the fourth-most international signing pool money left in the major leagues, and while they likely aren't in the running for Japanese pitcher and slugger Shohei Ohtani, the MLB's recent ruling against the Atlanta Braves has freed up 12 minor leaguers from their contracts, includes top prospect Kevin Maitan.

The Pirates have $2,266,750 in pool money, behind only the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins.

A special signing period for those players who signed with the Braves begins Dec. 5 and ends Jan. 15. Maitan is playing in Panama, and MLB will hold a workout for the rest of the players Nov. 27-28 in the Dominican Republic. The Braves were punished for violating international signing rules.
