Closer Rivero Drops Boras as Agent District Roundup

Felipe Rivero hired Francis Marquez of Magnus Sports as his agent and dropped Scott Boras, baseball's most prominent agent, as his representative.

Rivero, the Pirates closer and best pitcher in 2017, hired Magnus Sports last week, according to an industry source. He signed with Scott Boras' agency in May, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Magnus Sports already represents some closers, including New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman -- who this past season signed a five-year, $86 million contract, a record for a reliever -- and Cincinnati Reds closer Raisel Iglesias.

Rivero, 26, did not go through the arbitration process with Boras. Though he has fewer than three years of service time, Rivero is expected to reach Super Two status and become eligible for salary arbitration this offseason. …
