IT'S a beloved Christmas tradition that for most people means the festive season has well and truly begun.

Having a beautifully decorated Christmas tree at home has been an essential part of the festivities for many Brits - since it was popularised by Queen Victoria.

Of course, the debate about when it's acceptable to actually put them up has been rumbling on, pretty much ever since.

While most people wait until at least the start of Advent, there's a growing band of people who can barely make it past Bonfire Night before digging the fairy lights out of the loft, despite the cries of 'too soon'.

Now even the police have waded into the debate about whether or not it's acceptable to put your Christmas tree up in November, and they've made it clear where they stand on the issue.
