STAMFORD, Conn. – Yankees slugger Aaron Judge opted for clean-up surgery on his left shoulder, rather than resting and hoping it would be healed by opening day.

Following his end-of-season physical, Judge received an MRI on the shoulder that troubled him for much of the second half of his sensational, AL Rookie of the Year season.

At the time, Dr. Christopher Ahmad, the club physician, told Judge of his options to have a surgical cleanup or to wait a month and see how he felt.

"And a month later, he was still feeling it," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. Given a choice between further rest or surgery, Judge chose the clean-up procedure. He's expected to be fully ready to go by the start of spring training.

After a blistering start, Judge fell into a deep second-half slump after making his first All-Star team and winning the Home Run Derby. …
