Michael Flynn, U-S President Donald Trump's former national security adviser has pleaded guilty to lying to the F-B-I about his contacts with Russia, but White House lawyer Ty Cobb is trying to distance the plea from Trump.

Cobb says nothing in the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than Flynn.

That's not what Flynn says

The former three-star general says a senior Trump transition team member directed him to make contact with Russian officials.

Flynn is the first Trump White House official to face criminal charges and admit guilt so far in an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. (14)



Federal government officials say there will be no free trade talks when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visits China next week.

The officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, say the focus of the trip will be deepening economic ties and attracting more Chinese investment.

China is anxious to start formal free trade talks after several rounds of exploratory discussions, but Canada is still said to be assessing its position. (14)

The Supreme Court of Canada says the Yukon government was not entitled to rewrite a land-use plan for a huge swath of wilderness in the territory.

Margaret Rosling, a lawyer representing the First Nations and environmental groups involved in the case, says the decision is likely to have a profound impact on resource development and ecological protection in the Peel Watershed.

In 1993, Canada, Yukon and First Nations agreed on a process for development of land-use plans in regions including the watershed, but Yukon changed the final plan over the objections of the First Nations. (14)
