GRANDPARENTS 'SPEND AN AVERAGE £42' ON EACH GRANDCHILD AT CHRISTMAS ON average, grandparents will spend £41.82 on each grandchild this Christmas, research from SunLife has found.

Eight-in-10 grandparents surveyed have at least two grandchildren, which means £84 or more on gifts, while one-infive have five or more grandkids to buy for, potentially meaning they will be forking out more than £200.

The survey also found younger children prefer receiving presents from their grandparents, with 69% of six to eight-year-olds saying they like receiving gifts, while 81% of teenagers would rather have cash or gift cards.
