Illinois Governor Says He Is'not in Charge'

CHICAGO - Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner raised eyebrows, then questions about whether he misspoke after he declared "I am not in charge" of the state.

The Republican is seeking his second term in 2018. He said last week he's "trying to get to be" in charge, but has been blocked by longtime Democratic House Speaker Michael Madigan.

Now the comment could haunt him all the way until Election Day.

Rauner's words have drawn criticism from Democrats, his GOP primary challenger and even some of his supporters.

Moore probe promised

WASHINGTON - Senate Republicans have promised that former Alabama judge Roy Moore will face an ethics investigation if he wins Tuesday's special election.

But the Senate Select Committee on Ethics hasn't disciplined anyone since 2012.

Since 2007, it has issued five letters of admonition and no disciplinary sanctions, according to annual reports. …
