Teacher's Aide Quits in Wake of Sex Case

SOUTH HACKENSACK – A teacher's aide accused of sexually assaulting a female juvenile in October has resigned.

The South Hackensack school board approved the resignation of Phillip Cerone, 27, a teacher's aide in South Hackensack, on Monday. Cerone, a resident of Maywood, was arrested in October for allegedly sexually assaulting a female juvenile.

"I can only speak for myself," said Greg Maceri, South Hackensack schools superintendent. "In my opinion, I felt that this was the right decision."

Calls to a phone number listed for Cerone were not returned.

Cerone submitted his resignation to Maceri via email last Monday, the superintendent said. Cerone did not refer to his arrest or the allegations against him in the email, Maceri said.

Maceri confirmed that the child Cerone allegedly assaulted was not a student in South Hackensack. …
