A COUPLE accused of killing their fourday-old baby have walked free from court after being cleared by a jury.

Anthony Clark, 35, and Catherine Davies, 25, denied the murder of Ian Arthur Davies Jr in August last year.

The Bolton couple admitted a second charge of concealing the birth and were each sentenced to 15 months in prison, however they were freed due to time served. They will spend a further 12 months under licence.

A jury at Manchester Crown Court was directed by Justice Julian Goose to deliver not guilty verdicts on the murder charge as there was not enough evidence to determine the cause of death. The court heard the couple kept the child's birth on August 25, 2016 and death at their flat in Thornbank East, Bolton, secret and were accused of putting the body in a shoebox before digging a hole at Heaton Cemetery and burying the child. …
