Hearing Continues for Emerson Ex-Chief

EMERSON — Borough officials are expected to meet next month with a former fire chief accused of misconduct, after prior attempts to resolve the matter were unsuccessful.

A hearing was to be held Wednesday with Dan O'Brien, a 27-year veteran of the Emerson Fire Department who is accused of purposely returning the borough-owned fire chief's vehicle in poor condition and damaging fire extinguishers after he did not receive enough votes to serve as chief for a second year. But because O'Brien retained new counsel just hours before the hearing, it was postponed to Jan. 16.

O'Brien and his attorney, Paul Krauss, declined to comment Wednesday.

O'Brien served as the borough's fire chief in 2014. He did not garner the required percentage of votes to serve as chief the next year, and was replaced by Tom Carlos. …
