Blow to Reds as Bailly Is Ruled out for Three Months

ERIC Bailly could be out until March with an ankle injury after Jose Mourinho confirmed the United defender will undergo surgery.

The 23-year-old suffered an injury during the November internationals, even though he was suspended for the Ivory Coast's final World Cup qualifier against Morocco.

United have used 'conservative' treatment in the hope Bailly could return sooner, but it has now been confirmed the Ivory Coast international is sidelined for up to three months.

"He goes to surgery, the decision is made," Mourinho told MUTV. "I don't say for the rest of the season but it's for the next two or three months."

The extent of Bailly's injury means he could potentially miss United's Champions League knockout ties with Sevilla and the Carabao Cup final, should they progress that far.

Mourinho admitted in midweek Bailly's injury was 'serious', but the club had not made a decision on whether he should have surgery. …
