Teen Shot in Back on Way to School 8 Shots Detected in Homewood

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the back in Homewood while on his way to school Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened just before 8 a.m. in the 7500 block of Hamilton Avenue, according to Pittsburgh police.

The teenager, who has not been identified, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where he was in critical condition.

The boy was getting into a jitney when he was shot, according to police. The jitney driver pulled away and flagged down police.

Shotspotter detected eight rounds fired.

A neighbor who asked not to be named out of fear for her safety said she awoke to the sound of eight or nine gunshots.

The shooting happened about a half-block from a middle school bus stop, she said.

She waited at the bus stop at the corner of North Braddock and Hamilton avenues with her daughter and the other children as police worked behind crime scene tape down the road. …
