A Nova Scotia woman who reported the abusive and disrespectful behaviour of her male firefighting colleagues has received a public apology, following a 12-year battle.

Fifty-three-year-old Liane Tessier won the apology from Halifax's fire chief and the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

Fire Chief Ken Steubing formally apologized to Tessier and other female firefighters, admitting systemic gender discrimination in the historically male-dominated service.

The human rights commission also apologized for the time it took for Tessier's case to be dealt with. (The Canadian Press)

Pink said the defence of automatism is available to Garnier on the charge of interfering with a dead body, suggesting he was not consciously aware of what he was doing when he dumped her body.

The prosecutor also gave her closing address today in Nova Scotia Supreme Court, saying the Crown had proven its case against Garnier. (The Canadian Press)
