CLIFTON — A Paterson man who allegedly knifed a liquor store employee during an attempted robbery has been caught, police said Tuesday.

Kevin Owens, 35, was arrested by Paterson police on Friday, nine days after authorities say he tried to hold up the Limonta Liquors store on Vernon Avenue.

On the evening of Dec. 13, Owens entered the liquor store armed with a knife and demanded cash from the register, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.

When an employee refused to hand over the money, a struggle ensued. The employee was cut, and at some point, Owens was able to overpower the worker and flee, Bracken said. No cash was taken, he said.

Police were alerted to trouble at the store by an activated alarm around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the store unoccupied and in complete disarray, with numerous bottles broken on the floor, Bracken said. …
