Family of Dominique White Expresses Disappointment with D.A.'S Decision

The family of Dominique White expressed disappointment that Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay will not file charges against the two Topeka police officers who fatally shot White on Sept. 28.

"My son was shot in the back while attempting to run away from officers," Theresa Wynne, White's mother, said in a statement released by the family's attorney. "The video shows that they did not need to shoot and kill him."

Kagay said the officers' actions didn't rise to the level of a criminal offense.

"Had Topeka police exercised restraint, Dominique would be alive with us today. He would be at home spending the holidays with us, his family," said Molly White, White's stepmother.

Other community members said they were angered and frustrated by the decision.

"I'm disappointed in Kagay's decision," said Yasmari Rodriguez. "It shows who he protects -- and it's not us."

Rodriguez is part of an informal organization formed in response to White's death. …
