Arrested Man ID'd in Robbery Attempt

A man who claimed he had a bomb attempted to rob a downtown credit union Thursday morning but left the business empty-handed. He was apprehended moments later, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Azura Credit Union, 610 S.W. 10th.

Lee Lynn Lemons, 58, of Topeka, was arrested and booked into jail at 2:27 p.m. in connection with aggravated robbery. He was being held without bond.

Topeka police Lt. Chris Heaven said employees reported Lemons presented a note that demanded money and claimed he had a bomb.

Lemons, dressed in a camouflage jacket and blue jeans, left the credit union without getting any cash.

Police spotted the man less than a block away and arrested him.
