PISCATAWAY – Corey Sanders did not check in until 10:56 in the first half on Thursday night, with Rutgers down eight. It was not the defining factor in Rutgers' 60-58 defeat to Hartford (7-7), but the cause was a familiar story to Rutgers fans.

Rutgers Head Coach Steve Pikiell confirmed to reporters after the game that Sanders did not start because he missed his flight back to New Jersey after the holidays. The same thing happened last season.

"He missed his flight, so he missed practice the other day," Pikiell said. "He came back, he responded. It happens, travelling the day after Christmas is tough. He didn't start as a result. He likes to start. But it happens, that's a busy travel day. That wasn't why we lost the game today. He apologized to the team and we move forward. …
